Wait—for those of us who don’t live in Illinois, could you clarify? I thought it had become illegal for any resident of Illinois to own a handgun, and that defending yourself wiht a firearm in your own home is illegal as well. Many people believe the same thing. Is this not true? If it’s not, can you tell me roughly what the law is? That would help to clear up misconceptions.

You can not own a handgun in Cook County - Chicago. You can own a handgun in the rest of the state as far as I know. You don't register guns here, you register yourself. FOID cards are necessary to buy ammo and guns.

That is what I hate about the corruption in Chicago. Illinois is a looong state and in the southern tip you are below the some of the southern states. Not all of this state is corrupt.
