I created a new group on LinkedIN for USA Gymnasts and parents of gymnasts to network and discuss the competitive season. If you know any gymnasts or parents of gymnasts please invite them to join this group.

pass it on.. please
Them’s those little kids I see at the OTC dining hall, right? I love to watch them in line next to our basketball players.
Gymnasts are the strongest athletes; I hope your thread works well.
I think you are talking about cheer leaders LOL.. a lot of cheerleaders are gymnasts and vice versa... USAG Gymnast are serious competitors... it is where US Olympic Champions are “born” :)
Gymnasts are indeed the strongest athletes. Not many other sports command so much commitment and such delayed gratification for competition. It takes about 9 months to get ready for the next level’s season.
Gymnasts also have one of the best academic success records of NCAA athletes.
May season 2009 be a great one for all gymnasts!
I will pass on your well wishes to my daughter... a personal short story that is not unusual among gymnasts... My wife and I realized that we HAD to do something when my then 3 year old was constantly jumping on and off the bed rolling arround on the ground etc..etc.. we needed her to learn to do it “correctly” so that she would not get hurt.. she is now 9 and starting competitive LEVEL 6.... she took 8th place overall in Florida State Championships for level 5.. I thought it was pretty good but she was not happy with her performance :)

Good luck on your LinkedIn, David. Anectodally, my now 16 year old daughter competed from age 7 until 14. She reached level 9 at age 13. During her competitive years she broke an ankle and had 3 screws inserted, broke 3 metatarsals on her right foot during competition season, and still competed, developed Osgood-Schlatter disease in both knees, tore her ACL and had trouble with her hip flexors. She quit when she could no longer handle the pain.
Gymnasts are the strongest, toughest athletes around. Incredible pain, stress, determination and motivation for a total of about 5 minutes competition on four rotations at each meet. I have endless respect for them.
Melissa,
So far Amanda has not had a “serious” injury.. regular aches and pains are not uncommon however... As you know the gymnastics is “in them” and no matter how much pain they are in they “push through it” and I don’t think there is anything we can do to stop them.. I always tell her that if she wants to quit that is ok with me.. of course the answer is always “I WILL NEVER QUIT”... you probably know exactly what I mean..
David
Actually, I’m talking about the meal lines at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Gymnastics and Basketball sometimes have events going at the same time; seeing them in the dining line is quite funny. It’s the same thing with ice skaters.
lol.. i see the contrast now... “little gymnast” vs “BIG Basketball players” LOL.. that would be funny
I often tell Amanda that God made her body for gymnastics.. just like He made Michael Phelps to swim... LOL
