I don’t think this will get much traction for two reasons:
1- *ANYONE* coming out of, or even in contact with, Illinois/ Chicago politics is not only dirty, but a corrupt, shiv wielding S.O.B. That’s like saying an NBA basketball player is tall; no surprise there to anyone but the most dense and isolated voter, to say nothing of journalist. “Chicago Pol involved in corruption” = “Dog Bites Man”.
2- the chief of staff of the POTUS is supposed to be a down and dirty S.O.B. The guy who does the nasty stuff so the President can keep his hands clean, claim ‘plausible deniability’ and be a nice guy.
Realistically, is there any way a Senator could avoid having some political intercourse with the governor of their state? Obama’s smart enough to distance himself from the dirt, and have several fall guys; I also think he’s smart enough to not risk his neck over the small potatoes of selling a Senate seat when he could probably get 100x that much from his base with a request via a mailing list, especially when he’s already moved on to the much bigger prize.
It’s nice to see them sweat, and good to let them know they are under some scrutiny, but my guess is that if anything this is a distraction from something we AREN’T supposed to see happening right now, like a magician making you look at the other hand. But then I’ve been wrong before:-)
Well, other than that shady deal with Rezko, possibly brokered by Patty f'in Blagojevich, and other than Michelle getting that cush paid board position ... are really you sure he's smart enough? Looks to me as if he thought it was his due, and he'd never be called on it. He's been protected from consequences by various patrons all his life, so why wouldn't he think this way?
Only if he uses a tire gauge in the 57 States..............
