Sarah Palin helped push the Republican Party farther to the right this election – a polarization which could lead to the downfall of the party, insists Colin Powell.
Oh, and he also says Republicans should stop listening to conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh and we need to rethink the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.
“Gov. Palin, to some extent, pushed the party more to the right, and I think she had something of a polarizing effect when she talked about how small-town values are good,” Powell told CNN in an interview that will air Sunday. “Well, most of us don’t live in small towns. And I was raised in the South Bronx, and there’s nothing wrong with my value system from the South Bronx.”
He adds: “It was that attempt by the party to use polarization for political advantage that I think backfired.”
If the GOP doesn’t wake up and realize the far-right wing can’t carry the rest of the party, Powell – who created shockwaves throughout the political establishment when he endorsed Barack Obama for president, albeit, late in the game – thinks they could become obsolete.
“There’s nothing wrong with being conservative … but if the party wants to have a future in this country, it has to face some realities,” like it has to woo blacks and Hispanics, who are quickly becoming the majority in this country.
“I think the Republican Party needs to stop shouting at the world and the country … the party has to take a hard look at itself.”
Colin Powell’s view of Sarah Palin is further evidence of Powell’s weakness in judgment.
Powell is the perfect example of why affirmative action should be scrapped. His position was based solely on his race, for it certainly could not be based on merit. He has none. He’s attacked Rush, who earned his rightful position as a radio host, and he’s attacked Sarah Palin who has earned her position on merit.
He’s a democrat trying to move the Republican party in that direction. Somebody needs to tell him to move on.
Well, further to the right means less government... less taxes... less regulations... I'm not seeing any problems with Sarah?

IF you are a republican and say something is good, you are always chastised for “polarising”, since by saying something is good, you imply something might be bad.
So when Barbara Bush introduced her husband in 1996 by saying he was a decent and honorable man, she was attacked because she implied that Clinton was not.
And when a republican tells a gathering that they are real americans, that republican is “polarizing” because they are saying other people are not real americans.
Of course, Democrats can say to their audience “you are the change”, and that doesn’t imply that other people are not up to the challenge.

I think Colin Powell, a man I once respected as much as any politician, is now a seriously deluded, quite ignor er uninformed person. He should quit the party.

I am SO glad that Sarah exposed all of these RINOS and they are coming out of the closet now. Show us who you are RINOS so that we can throw you in the trash one by one. HEY POO POWELL, I VOTED FOR MCCAIN BECAUSE OF SARAH PALIN GET IT!! I would have stayed home if he had chosen Romney or Huckabee, I voted for a TRUE Conservative, someone who shares my beliefs and ideals. Someone who reminds me of the great Ronald Wilson Reagan, and that is Sarah Palin, not that loser McCain who showed over and over again that he was NEVER a TRUE Conservative. It is time for us Americans to kick our addiction to putting these elitists in charge and Colin Powell is one of these elitists. We need to put common people in charge who have a hell of a lot more common sense than these elitists morons.
