Isn’t Shinskei the bozo that ordered black berets for the entire US Army?

Both barrels of blah blah blah.

The man wanted things done his way and clearly resented Rumsfeld.

Tough!

Why does the author feel the need to kiss the Generals rear end?

I have two friends - retired O-6s - who worked for and have great respect for Gen Shinseki. I trust their judgment - and one of them was right in the middle of the black beret issue (he still rolls his eyes when I mention it). Even great leaders occasionally get cerebral methane.

On Gen. 親戚さん I read about him. I know he came into the picture during Clinton's tenure. One of his biggest mistakes was issuing black berets for all army soldiers. Even though I never was in the service but I was not happy with the decision and still not even today. That should be continually reserved for the Army Rangers. On other items, it seems like he was on the money especially following the ethical trail of keeping his disagreements with Rumsfield private and keeping politics to himself unlike two other high brass military people - Colin Powell and Adm. Crowe by supporting the democrats.
