I’m going to play devil’s advocate here... no matter how much proof is provided in this case, I don’t think it would ever be enough to kill the debate completely.
The nature of a good conspiracy theory is that it includes the fabrication of the evidence disproving the theory, as part of the conspiracy itself.
Suppose you were Obama and you DID have a legitimate birth certificate proving without question that you were a natural born US citizen. Right now, would you release that documentation?
I’ll assume the answer is YES, because logic dictates that this would satisfy a reasonable citizen.
So, now the real question...
Could you kill off the conspiracy theory by doing so?
Be honest... the answer is NO. And that’s a big problem.
If Obama had provided the actual COLB to the media, the presentation of a duplicate or a scan would’ve been dismissed as a fake irrespective of whether it’s fake or not. Because we can’t trust the media and we don’t have the original.
If he was then to submit the original for independent verification then how can he convince us to trust the independent verification?
If the SCOTUS was to confirm its validity then how can we be sure that there hasn’t been a cover-up?
If the COLB was submitted to full open scrutiny, carbon dated, ink tested, stamp tested and every test known to man on a live national television show, with experts that I could personally believe in, then that would do it for me.
But, the most hardcore conspiracy theorists will still wonder if it’s a very elaborate forgery using legitimate stamps, legitimate paper and legitimate ink, which can fool the experts.
The more you examine it, the more futile any attempt by Obama to silence the debate on this issue gets. So, if you were in his shoes and you COULD produce a valid COLB, what exactly would be achieved by doing it?
Well at least Salvato corrected his error from the orginal Dec. 3 edition of this epistle to reflect that Gov. Lingle is a Republican and not a Democrat as he originally claimed. However I'd also like to see him back up his claim that Gov. Lingle had the record sealed. I don't think he can but if he could I'd like to see the proof.
