I knew it was only a matter of time before they went after Usenet. There’s more copyrighted material available there than anywhere else.
Some ISP’s have already done away with the binaries hierarchy, and I suspect eventually the MPA will sue to shut down the independent providers.
I agree with you but they are going to need some very friendly courts to be successful.
It is also true that the ISPs are going to get out of the Usenet business since it beats fighting the MPA and RIAA in court and they know that most of their customers will never notice. It is quite another thing for the MPA to shut down the independent Usenet providers who are also serving up huge amounts of legal non-copyrighted material. I really can't see the courts doing away with Usenet just to save the business models of the MPA and RIAA. And remember that the independent Usenet providers can be anywhere in the world.
But of course I could be wrong. It's happened once or twice.
