OK, it was a badly formed joke -— but the point still stands, when do you declare T0? and who decides -— Maybe we should reset the world’s boundaries to 11,000 BC -— LOL.

When did the Indo-Pak crisis really flare up, wasn’t it right after WWII when India and Pakistan started fighting over the UN partitioning of Kashmir or some such?

Sorry, little bit over-nitting on my part.

India and Pakistan didn't exist before then, so that's the logical starting point.

When the Brits left, the rulers of the "princely states" were supposed to be able to decide whether they would become part of Pakistan or India. In most cases, geography or the demography of the population made the choice inevitable.

But Kashmir had a large Muslim majority but was ruled by a Hindu prince. The prince chose to join India, whereupon his subjects revolted and the two countries jumped in on opposite sides.

The conflict between Muslims and Hindus goes back well over a thousand years, although there have been long periods of toleration. In the opinion of famous historian Will Durant, the Muslim invasion of India constitures the bloodiest episode of human history.
