The government has ruined the mortgage industry and by extension damaged much of the economy. The public schools are a disaster. The heavily regulated automobile industry is a disaster. The regulations on the energy industry are creating artificial scarcity. The government destroys almost everything it touches.

The above problems with the federal government are really a consequence of the people not knowing the federal Constitution and its history, in my opinion. More specifically, the Founders made the federal Constitution to limit (cripple) the powers the federal Government so it would remain a small federal government. This is evidenced by the following statutes.

Article I, Section 8, Clause 18: To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution (emphasis added) in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.

10th Amendment: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

The reason that we have an unruly huge federal government today is the following. In the 1930s, Constitution-ignoring federal Democratic lawmakers and justices led by FDR essentially politically repealed the above statutes in order to start FDR's constitutionally unauthorized New Deal federal spending programs. Sadly, one reason that the people have never put a stop to Democratic spending shenanigans is because they are as constitutionally ignorant as the lawmakers that they send to DC are.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm actually glad that Socialist Obama is president-elect. This is because the people are ultimately going to be forced to reconnect with the Constitution and its history in order to protect themselves from constitutionally clueless Obama's misguided pen.

if dorgan were a republican,

he’d be toast; he would have been ousted for taking the money from abramoff.

but if you’re a democrat-socialist, it’s like the game of horseshoes—close counts.
