I have not heard a single reason why a government bailout would be superior to a bankruptcy filing unless you consider keeping unrealistic benefits for a few union members at the expense of taxpayers a reason. Shareholders should not be rewarded for making a poor choice and letting poor Management stay entrenched.

Agreed. Sit the union management down, tell them here's the deal-

Your retiree's with over 20 years service, will receive $X per month, and an adjusted medical plan. Anyone with less than 20 years, better pick up the pace.

Don't like that?

Better to receive a smaller percentage of something, than 100% of nothing! If the UAW doesn't get that, skip chapter 11, let's get right to chapter 7.
