The Right Way to Be the Loyal Opposition
North Star Writers Group ^ | November 17, 2008 | Dan Calabrese

Few statements gave away more than Howard Dean’s 2004 admonishment of his rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination – that they needed to get control of their sniping because it was wrong for them to regard each other as the enemy:

“The enemy is George Bush.”

Truer words were never spoken. Throughout the presidency of George W. Bush, with a brief and probably phony respite just after 9/11, the Democratic Party regarded the president as the enemy – much more so than Saddam Hussein, Osama Bin Laden or any other foe of America. They transparently hoped for his policies to fail so they could blame him and take political advantage.

Conservatives, even those who had many problems of their own with Bush’s policies, rightly expressed outrage to see Democrats seeming to embrace even the demise of the nation itself if it meant Bush would be the first to take the fall. And conservatives were sure that, placed in the same position, we would never behave in such a manner.

Someone finally admits that the 9/11 aftermath niceties were faked. I never thought they did a particularly good acting job....despite their claims of being “united.”

“I argued vociferously that Obama should not be president. I didn’t get my way. I plan to afford him my respect. He will be my president”

AS IF Liberals did ANY of this for President Bush. Heck, they never even called him ‘President’, it was always Mr. Bush.

Nauseating

I do have to admit that I’m looking forward to giving my liberal friends unmitigated H*** for the next 4 years every time Obama does something obnoxious. And he will. Having said that, I don’t wish ill on America (altho I suspect we will get shovels of it).

[Respect the president. Not just the office of the president, but President Obama as well.]

Sorry, no can do.

[Give Obama credit when he does something right.]

Like that is going to happen - Obama is a Marxist - get it?

[Celebrate when something goes well, and don’t try to bring about problems.]

Nope. I’m playing with the Democrat playbook now.

[Most importantly, conservatives need to offer their own positive vision for America’s present and future, and offer these ideas to President Obama. ]

Like Obama gives a toot what we think.

Sorry Danny Boy,

The Dims set the rules starting in 2000. Obstruct. Lie. Take credit for someone else’s success, while denying him/her any. Take no blame for your mistakes, shift the blame to the opposition. Do whatever it takes to achieve power and destroy the other side.

War to the knife. Knife to the hilt [politically speaking].

I've got a better idea Mr. Calabrese.

The conservative Republicans in the House and Senate should vote “Present” for every vote no matter what and when they stand before the microphones of the press, utter this simple statement: “I cannot vote for this legislation because the people who sent me to Washington expect me to vote 100% conservative, 100% of the time.”

Let the RINOS do all the talking so we can spot them and not vote for them ever again, no matter how much they beg and plead.

Have all the conservative Republicans with as much fanfare as is possible in the media, announce at the beginning of each session of Congress, their intention to offer just 3 pieces of legislation during the coming year: 1) the Fair Tax revenue bill in conjunction with the repeal the 16th amendment, 2) the Balanced Budget Act which will cap the proposed Federal budget to the Federal revenues collected during the previous fiscal year and 3)imposing term limits to 2 terms for all members of the the House and Senate while changing House terms from 2 to 4 years and Senate terms to 6 years.
