So how does currency manipulation in Asia affect Japanese auto makers in the U.S.? They pay in dollars, not yen.

Currency manipulation is commonplace in Asia. Not the entire cause, but a contributing factor here. A cheaper Yen makes their purchases in Yen more expensive. How does that help their US operations?
