i think an AR-15 is the logical next step. once i move out of the city, i'll get a rifle. they will always be available, maybe not so with the AR's.

You might consider one of the new 580 series Ruger Mini-14s. Shoots the same ammunition as the AR, essentially equivalent accuracy, and if you get the Ranch Rifle version with wood stock, it doesn't look like an "assault rifle". The only bad thing I can say about it is 20 round factory magazines for it are quite costly.

Olympic's are OK, but they're kind of sloppily built.

Mine has ZERO play between upper and lower.

Stag makes a quality rifle. It’s a good choice, especially since you’re lefty.
