Part of me really likes Newt and then the other part remembers Newt kissing up to Hillary.

Newt is a good guy and is probably the best grassroots strategist that the GOP has right now. I worry about the age/generational issue with him, but he’s the one guy who’s still around who has engineered a conservative revolution.

His “boy” being Chip Saltsman, per the article.

Saltsman has been on TV frequently, and looks a lot like George Allen, IMO. But if Huck is supporting the guy, forget it! He’s probably a RINO. We need a forceful, authoritative guy, like Newt.

Nobody connected with Mike Huckabee please!

Michael Steele is a good guy, but what has he done other than serve as LT Gov for one term and then lose the MD senate race?

No Rush engineered a conservative revolution. Newt just went along for the ride. Mr sleaze would really go a long way to put a new face on the republican brand. The man has the morals of a dog.

Rush was a big part, but Newt did the strategery with the contract with America and recruited all those great GOP challengers.

I’ll echo a comment by a fellow freeper.....if Newt can help engineer another conservative revolution and stop Obama’s socialist plans in their tracks, he can have a harem larger than Caligula for all I care.

Both Newt Gingrich and Fred Thompson want to battle it out for the leadership of the RNC?? Let them prove themselves: The one that goes public with this issue and fully articulates the pertinent points can earn the spot. Beyond the fact that BO won’t provide the vault copy of his birth certificate, it’s important that he was traveling around on an Indonesian passport as a young adult. So when did he give up his Indonesian citizenship?? Doesn’t anyone in the press or Congress even care if he meets the constitutional requirements to be president of the US? Call Newt Gingrich’s office and tell him to get on this. If he refuses, then we don’t want him as head of the RNC.

I don’t think Newt’s age matters much. Ask anyone on the street or the average voter for that matter and 1 out of 1000 could tell you who the RNC chair is.

They are the behind-the-scenes strategists, not the “face” of the party.

Please not Fred Thompson.

Not based upon how he motivated and projected himself in his presidential campaign.

Then tell Newt to go out and fight for us now! The public should be told that BO traveled to Pakistan in his early twenties on an Indonesian passport (as an Indonesian citizen). It seems to me that the RNC has a direct stake in this matter and should bring it to the Courts if necessary. Let Newt get the ball rolling. I’m tired of these pantywaist Republican bigwigs that won’t do the right thing.

If you want to support no morals newt and join his support of global warming just say so. Nancy will welcome you with open arms, but if those stitches break holding those eye lids up you better jump.

I don’t think Newt supports global warming in the sense that Al Gore and Pelosi do. I think he feels it is helpful if Republicans engage the issue and put forward solutions that do not involve expanding government and raising taxes on energy. Specifically, I think he favors a big expansion of nuclear power. Don’t get me wrong, I fall more in line with the Jim Inhofe crowd on this issue, but Newt being chairman of the RNC doesn’t mean he will turn the party into a bunch of Greenies. The RNC chairman’s chief responsibility is to build the party, get the grassroots mobilized, and raise money. I think Newt can do those things as good as anyone.
