“I finished adjusting the seat and turned to walk around the back of my vehicle to close the passenger door so we could proceed to our destination. As I walked in front of the young man, he inquired, “Where are you coming from?” At that time I made the decision to invoke and refuse to waive all of my constitutional rights and privilegesincluding being forced to talk to a functionary of the state (See: The Police Contact). I informed him that where I was coming from was none of his “bleeping” business.”
I’m not LEO lover at all, but it sounds like to me that you elevated this situation from a casual question by the LEO to outright confrontation. Do you have chip on your shoulder?
Most cops are losers, period. They are supposed to protect and serve, but all they do these days is raise funds for their cities or counties. They used to ride in traffic to keep people safe from speeding, but now they have undercover cars and they hide and sneak to catch people speeding to raise money. The seat belt laws are a joke designed to also raise money, because have you ever seen any school district required to have seat belts in all school buses? No, you haven’t because what good would it do to ticket the people they are raising money for.
Yeah, how dare a private citizen not kiss a cop’s ass on private property! Do you have $hit for brains?
“Do you have $hit for brains?”
How about you fool? Is that the way to start off a discussion with a cop? This poster is supposedly an ex-military. He should know better than most people to respect authority.
Yeah, I hate to say it, but I would have become suspicious in this situation, if I had been in the cop's shoes. This guy went from having a casual conversation to swearing at the LEO for no discernible reason. That would have got me thinking, too.
What “authority” did a cop have on private property without a warrant of any kind? NONE. Respect does not equal being a lap dog. You must suffer from occasional or permanant power tripitis.
Nobody says this guy had to kiss anyone's ass. But, AFAIK, the cop was being perfectly polite to this guy, but he just decided to start being rude.
And your post is no better. If you want to be treated seriously by adults, stop posting like a pissy teenager.
Welcome to FR. Now our quota for people who don’t appreciate the importance and liberty of private property is filled.
I'm a big fan of liberty and private property. But cops are trained to look for suspicious activity. And a guy who goes from a casual conversation to swearing at a LEO just shooting the breeze is going to make a cop nervous.
This dude is his own worst enemy- it seems like he's just looking for some sort of confrontation so he can cry victim.
Last time I checked, it is not illegal to be rude on private property when you are not under arrest. I think I will come over to your house and trespass and cuff you if you if I think you are not being polite. You sheep kill me.
“cops are trained to look for suspicious activity”
Yeah, I am sure the legions of cops who only have a G.E.D.’s or HS Diplomas are secretly experts at thought detection. Everything you write is moot, BECAUSE IT WAS PRIVATE PROPERTY WITHOUT A WARRANT.
I think I will come over to your house and trespass and cuff you if you if I think you are not being polite.
In situations where police feel threatened or are detaining someone, they do have the power to temporarily restrain a person and to search them for weapons. They do not need a warrant to exercise that power. The thing you seem to be missing is that this whole situation came about because this guy decided to become verbally abusive and belligerent. What's the point of that? How does he think a LEO is going to respond to someone who flies off like that out of the blue?
Been there, done that and spent the night in county jail and all I said was I did not care to indulge in casual conversation. The fact that in this incident it was a game warden, yes I know he is still a peace officer, still, the guy was on private property.
That doesn't make a difference. Police powers to detain someone extend to private property and do not require a warrant. If a cop sees someone breaking into a house on private property, or observes someone removing drugs from a car on private property, they can go in and arrest them on the spot.
Or do you think that once you make it onto private property, you're immune to the law?
First off, the LEO had no bussiness on private property unless he was investigating a crime already commited. The cop had no reason to even question the guy, but, too many sheep think we should just kneel and kiss the ring of government.
Gee, weren’t we addressing this thread? This guy was not removing drugs from a car. Besides, how do you see that? Do all people that remove drugs from cars have brief cases that say “drugs” on them? Or are cops also trained in xray vision to see what is in people’s pockets?
All we have is the word of this blogger that this is how events happened. His own words paint him as being slightly off. I'll take his side of the story with a grain of salt.
