I’d like to have an expert opinion on this. As I understand it, Souter denied that Berg has standing and denied Berg’s request to delay the election, but left it that Obama must produce a valid birth certificate by December 1.
The question is, what happens if Obama responds on November 30 and asks for a further delay? Or his lawyers or the DNC pull some other ploy? It seems unlikely that SCOTUS will act in a hurry on this.
Although I would be delighted to see this issue brought into the light of day, since I’m convinced that there is something very bogus there, I think the likelier outcome is that Obama will be installed as President but that there will be lingering doubts and questions. But there were lingering doubts and questions all through clinton’s reign, and that didn’t stop him from staying in office and doing pretty much what he liked.
