Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.At one time in our history church groups would volunteer to assist their community.
Are the ghetto kids who drop out in 8th grade excused? What about prisoners, will they be made to 'volunteer' like law-abiding h.s. and college kids?
How long will it take before thiis is just a phony scam of faking 'volunteer' work for credit?
hair on the back of my neck standing on end!!
But the courts will soon be packed with people who share his same Marxist worldview.
Does this sound like Hitler’s Youth Corps - sure does to me!
Community Service (in the past) has always been ordered as sentencing for crime - like DWI, or too many tickets for speeding, etc.
When I graduated high school in Seattle, we were required to do 40 hours of community service our senior year as part of our American Civics & Government course. I split my 40 hours between volunteering for a political campaign and packing food for care packages being sent overseas for disaster relief.
It was a really great experience, and the "oh noes forced slavery" comments are pretty silly. When I did it it didn't seem anymore "forced slavery" than any other homework assignment, and was certainly more interesting (and took less time) than some of the reports I've was assigned.
Require kids to do community service? Wouldn’t their time be better spent at home or in a library? A good argument for home schooling.
e.g. Son - age 31, 7' tall, center basketball player, was paired up with a 4'll" woman who didn't have family to visit her at her nursing home. They continued their friendship until she died in 2002. He wrote to her while he was in college as well as visited her on breaks.
The hard winter in Harbin, NE China, 1994. I was there. Living at the Agricultural University.
The roads were covered with the ice of successive snows and rains, probably close to 9” thick of packed ice. There was no snow/ice removal equipment in the city.
We woke one morning to hear the pounding of feet of about five thousand university students, all marching in lock step to military-style chants and songs.
I then discovered my classes were canceled for the morning.
The next day, I asked my obviously worn out students what they did the previous day. They said that they marched out to clear several miles of ice. It was all by hand with picks and shovels.
I asked, “Were you forced or obligated to do that?” “No,” they said,”We always VOLUNTEER.”
“What if you don’t ‘volunteer’,” I asked. “We can’t talk about that” was their reply.
Coming to Obamerika soon.
Remember this satire from earlier this year? Turns out the guy was spot-on!

In a move the candidate characterized as having the dual purpose of restoring “a sense of community” and “combating obesity,” Senator Barack Obama (D-Ill) said one of his first policy initiatives if he is elected president will be to ask for legislation establishing government-run “labor battalions” wherein people will be called upon to “toil for the collective benefit of society.”
“Americans have become too self-centered, too greedy,” Obama said. “This isn’t their fault. Our society doesn’t insist that they put aside their petty personal concerns for the good of the whole. As president I will be giving Americans the opportunity to do just that.”
While all the details of this proposal haven’t been laid out, the gist of the plan calls for every working American to contribute one month a year to community projects. “People will get their hands dirty investing their sweat for a better America,” Obama rhapsodized. “They’ll be out in the fresh air getting exercise, too.”
Those reluctant to contribute to the effort “will be asked to attend special education sessions to try to help them overcome their selfish aversion to work for the common good,” Obama continued. “We will change America, one soul at a time if that’s what it takes.”
It is wonderful that you enjoyed your experience, but if it is required then it is not voluntary. The outcome of your grade depended on your fulfilling the classroom obligation of “volunteer” work, right?
I wonder what “incentive” Obama will use to encourage this required volunteerism.

Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.
Well, asshats, Molōn labe!
I’m thinking he’s going to want to try to federalize local law enforcement and turn them into the civilian defense whatever that’s as well funded, supplied and equipped as our military.
Another thing about this mandatory volunteerism; Regular folks who enjoy volunteering will cease doing so. My kids and I love to volunteer. If this becomes a reality, we will dig our heels in. The most generous Nation on Earth will no longer care to help anyone or any organization. It’s basic parenting 101. It’s not a chore till ya tell ‘em to do it.
I've been doing my best to keep them off the streets, as a consequence I've got to buy another gun safe.
It is just simply time to say NO!
I have already sent letters to my congressman and senators staing that my family will never participate in this scheme, period. And we won’t!
Millions of American families need to protest this before the plans are laid and the laws are passed. NOW! Start defeating this NOW!
Have you written your letters yet?
