The Republicans, step by step, became the big government politicians they once decried the Democrats for being.
This abandonment of the most basic conservative values made it easy to support bailout bills and bridges to nowhere.
However, there was one man who held on to his beliefs during this time. That man is Tom Coburn. He was a member of the Republican Revolution. He, along with other Republicans, pledged to limit his terms in the Congress. While others reneged on that pledge, Coburn held fast to his word.

Coburn endorsed McCain in the primary.
Coburn voted for the $850 billion bail out. No thanks. I was his ally up til that point.
He had to make a strategic decision with far-less-than-ideal alternatives. He’s still the most principled conservative in the Senate.
I am not sure what this little comment was supposed to imply. Because Coburn endorsed McCain in the primary and McCain lost, then . . . . Would you be writing the same thing if McCain had won.
Tom Coburn is the real deal. The article pretty much shows that to be the case. I am, BTW, from Oklahoma and proud to have Senator Coburn be one of our Senators. He is one of the few politicians I would want to meet and shake hands with..
He voted for the bailout which was deeply disappointing but on most everything else he’s a solid guy.
I am, BTW, am also from Oklahoma and proud to have Senator Coburn be one of our Senators, just saying his endorsement of McCain VERY early in the primaries gives me pause. Not because McCain lost, but because McCain is a RINO.
Why not keep McConnell? He pushed the bailout as well, and seems to be solid. He has worked the Senate in ways others before had not been able to do.
I have a strong leading for new, but I don’t know much about Coburn, any help here?
Sold, George Will hates him, I’m in.
George Will is one stop from a pompous a$$hole.
Dittos with Pence and Sessions ....
The real question do you stop the madness or let it go forward and fail. Just enough resistance to get it by. Remember Canada? Turned Conservative over the confiscatory global warming taxes. Something to think about.
Yeah, I agree with Perry, good article, I read it earlier today.
NOT FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE ENOUGH!!
