Yes, it was killed by the SOCIAL CONSERVATIVES, who want GOVERNMENT in the bedrooms of their neighbors to make sure 2 gays weren't sleeping together.

Social conservatives are just as important to the GOP as fiscal conservatives. In most cases(as in mine) the two go hand in hand.
