I had always thought Reagan said it, and I was a little disappointed the RINO President Ford said it . I suppose that is why it isn't quoted more these days. But then I thought about it again, because the dichotomy between those that believe this vs. those that believe that the job of government is "to spread the wealth around" could not be more starkly differentiated. IMHO, McCain would be wise to phrase the choice directly between these two points of view, and even RINO's believe this.

Actually said by Gerald Ford, this is also sometimes attributed to Barry Goldwater. Paraphrased variant: A government that is big enough to give you everything you want is also big enough to take everything you have.

Any government that is big enough to give to us everything
we want, is big enough to take from us everything we have!
