“Do freebirthing mothers forgo ultrasounds as well?”

I did not have any medical prenatal care with my last two pregnancies, so no, I did not have an ultrasound, but many women use various forms of prenantal care, including scans to help them prepare for the home birth.

Freebirth is all about taking personal responsibility, but hiring whatever professional a mother feels is important for her and her baby.

After my last birth I hired a post partum doula to care for me, and asked my chiropractor to come to our home for post birth adjustments for me and my son.

Taking personal responsiblity? Tell that to the numerous women who died in childbirth before modern medicine. I can see wanting a natural childbirth in the most normal setting, but there's a hell of a lot more to saving lives than "taking personal responsibility."

And I would have died from a VBAC. My uterine wall was so thin at one point near the incision that my doctor joked that he could read a newspaper through it. And I was counseled not to have any more children after that second c-section...for obvious reasons.

Just a bit more. My first c-section was medically necessary.

Also, my daughter gave birth in the hospital with a doula and a midwife, and she had an absolutely wonderful experience.
