Hello....all of a sudden my Outlook 2003 will not download my emails from my Comcast.net server! I can send email to the server, but it will not retrieve it. I also have my Hotmail downloaded to my Outlook and that sends and receives with no problem. I am getting this error message from Outlook.

Anyone know what it could be? I shut down Zonealarm and it didn't help. Also, comcast has recently updated their online mail program like 2 days ago.

Thanks alot for all your research. I tried calling them again asking about POP3...but they are too busy and I got a call later message.....I will work on it tomorrow and hopefully it’s a server problem. I appreciate your help!

You should be able to change it. (Tools... email accounts... (select the right one).... change... )
FWIW, sometimes mine freezes up. I’ve resorted to deleting the account and setting it up as a new one and it works fine.
PS: I don’t have Comcast but have used Outlook 2003 for years to retrieve Yahoo and Verizon emails.

Looks like your setting is correct, according to what they say on their website.
My hunch is that they were having some server trouble.

When you set up the account initially, it's set up as POP3 or IMAP account. So it's sort of hard coded. You have to change the account type to POP3 for the incoming server to be labeled POP3 instead of IMAP.
I have internet service through Comcast, but I use gmail instead of a comcast account, so I don't even know what the appropriate settings are. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

This is what I will call comcast about...ask them which one it should be....and hopefully them might be able to help me change it in outlook if it's the wrong one...all of a sudden......
I have a gmail, yahoo, hotmail, AOL and comcast emails...all for different purposes...

Hey ALL! I was able to fix it.
It had to be a 'POP3' as you guys thought, so I deleted the IMAP account and create a new one using POP3......and poof....it downloaded!
Thanks for all your help and advice!!! I would of never figured this out without you.....
