Here is video of John McCain yesterday at a Town Hall Meeting where he twice told concerned questioners that Sen. Obama is a "decent family man," and that "you don't have to be scared of Sen. Obama as President."
He made the remarks as supporters told McCain in questions that they were "scared" of an Obama presidency. But rather than reassuring voters that the United States has withstood bad leadership before, and would do so again if Obama becomes President, McCain seemed to personally vouch for Obama.
Unfortunately, what Sen. McCain did directly undercuts the ads now running which call into question Obama's fitness for the office because of his radical associations with people like unrepentant terrorist William Ayers. Now, if McCain tries to raise questions about Obama's associations, all the Obama campaign needs to do is say, "You reassured your supporters that Obama is a 'decent man' and that there is no need to be scared of him as President.'" Think of all the people that are trying to drag this awful candidate over the finish line. He knocks Obama down and the Ayres and Acorn stories are starting to penetrate. And what does the candidate do but step on his own momentum. He is nearly hopeless. FReepers were afraid last night he’d throw Palin under the bus ? Palin and Rick Davis should tell him “you are on your own”.

Hubby and I were talking last night.
I’m convinced (and even MORE convinced after reading this article) that McCain has decided over the past couple of months that he doesn’t really want to be president!
His campaign and refusal to TELL THE TRUTH about the financial mess is PROOF that he is unwilling to do what is necessary to win. If one is unwilling to do what is necessary to win, that is proof the person doesn’t really want to win.
I think these latest economic woes of the country and the anger of the American people has taken the fight out of him.
Perhaps he has gotten some bad “medical news” that we don’t know about.
I don’t know, but I do believe he doesn’t really want to be POTUS!

How in the HELL did he win FL? I believe the Dems performed their own “Operation Chaos” and it worked wonderfully for them, sticking us with McCain. If we had Romney running, we probably would not even have this problem!
If McCain loses this election he’ll be public enemy #1 in conservative circles for the rest of his life, and back to being the darling of the MSM and libs in general in short order. ....which is a position he evidently finds comforting.

McCain has to go on the offensive if he wants this thing. Weakness and taking the focus away from who BHO is and who he runs with will hurt him badly. It is amazing that BHO has a good chance of winning. He is probably the weakest Democrat candidate in living memory. Sadly McCain is running a terrible campaign and could actually lose to this empty suit.

The greatest strategy the Democrats ever unleashed upon the Republican party was the concept of “unity” and “bipartisanship”. Republicans are reluctant to criticize Democrats for fear of losing “honor”, so instead they lose elections. The reasons the media was so critical of these rallies was because they were so effective at generating excitement for McCain’s limp campaign. Now, just like in 1996, when Dole listened to the media and decided to not make character an issue in the election against Clinton (who was mired in scandals), the GOP is determined to lose again. This time, it is a different world, and the damage “the Lord” will do to the country in the next 4 years might will set us back at least a generation.

McCain has to be careful not to be portrayed as an angry, erratic old man. He didn’t have much choice but to try and calm down the person that asked the question. If you want to drag someone across the finish line, start by seeing the good in your candidate. Reactions like yours simply make things worse.
Stop sending money to the RNC. That is the only way they will get. McCain is a LOSER!!!! We are stuck with this 4 time LOSER!!!!!
I’ve tried to tune out this topic as I know I’m in the minority here and probably can’t convince anyone to see it differently.
Someone pops up and says something like this - what are the candidates choices?
1. He could smile, acknowledge the remark, and be accused of acreeing with it. Oh, many Freepers would love that, it’s red meat to the lions, but how would we like the headlines that would dog McCain-Palin the rest of the campaign?
2. He could ignore it. In which case we’d be seeing continuous loops of the question and his response in Obama’s next ad, with the tagline of “Dishonorable, disrespectful”...
3. Or he could respond as he did. Maybe he could have chosen better words under pressure, but I still say he made the right choice, given the task at hand is not to cater to people like us but to attract independent uncommitted voters.
OK I feel better now...
