Typically, the frame is held in the dominant (stronger) hand, and the slide in the non-dominant (weaker) hand. Transferring the job of “holding still” to the non-dominant hand will typically allow a more efficient application of power to the action.

Thanks for the explanation. I hadn't thought of it in those terms. It makes perfect sense now.
