Palin And Her Critics
The American Conservative ^ | October 3, 2008 | Daniel Larison

Posted on 10/03/2008 3:02:37 PM PDT by atlaw

. . . I rehash all of this not to dwell on Palin’s problems, which are increasingly irrelevant as McCain heads towards defeat, but to implore conservatives to stop ignoring reality just because they happen to like a candidate’s personality and biography. Besides being bad for the quality of conservative thought, it embraces the caricature that conservatives are indifferent to knowledge and have no use for expertise, which has become an all too legitimate critique of how conservatives have responded to the misrule of the Bush administration. That was not always the case, but if conservatives insist on making elaborate arguments that understanding and knowledge are not significant criteria when choosing our top elected officials they will lose whatever credibility they may still have. More than that, they will be crippled by their embrace of cheerful ignorance when it comes time to oppose the policies of the Democratic administration that is surely about to be elected.

Reagan never beat the rap he was “an amiable dunce.” That was his intro and epitaph as far as the crowd this guy wants to impress.

Palin seems to take a broad view of things. Jindal seems to be a detailed, policy wonk kind of guy. That’s why I think they’d make such a great team. Macro-manager and micro-manager.

...and I’ve got 69,989,000 reasons for saying so.

from what I know , I wouldn’t object, but there are a lot of other interesting candidates in the pipeline, like Colonel West.

The problem with this article seems to be the author doesn't understand that Palin actually HAS accomplished a lot of things in government, positive things, unlike those such as those who can pretend to know about lots of things. Her resume is impressive once you get beyond the MSM digging for "facts" such as self paid rape kits.

Who the hell is this guy. I’ve got nearly 35 years in Washington working at the top of the conservative movement. Never heard of him in my life. Get lost, drip.

1) Billary don’t want Obama to win
2) “Hussein” being Obama’s middle name is still news to most people
3) A picture of Obama dressed as a Muslim (there are at least three) is still worth 1000 words (3000 in this case). Man your email station! Post bills!
4) The PUMAs will vote Palin, and that means the Democrat “base” is at risk.
5) Bitter GunClingers, will vote McCain
6) The Palins ARE America and the conservative base. America and the conservative base will vote accordingly.
7) The NRA has “8 figures” of ads to unload in “swing” states
8) Obama is only 5 points up in New York! New York!
9) The Democrats are freaking out
10) The Enemedia is already spreading the meme that if Obama loses, it “is racism”. They see the tea leaves ...
11) The Media was calling the election for Kerry ELECTION MORNING in 2004
13) McCain has not yet played the Jeremiah Wright card, and Wright is pissed at Obama and writing a book!
14) Plenty of regular Democratic voters are unimpressed with this lightweight Obama, and will not vote for him.
15) Obama has only 60% of the Jewish vote, compared to the 75% Kerry got.
16) “Polls” that show Obama ahead tell a different story when internals are studied.
17) Polls are meant by the liberal media, to SHAPE public opinion, not report it.

If you have any more, ping or FReepmail me. I post this list whenever I get a chance.

Who the hell is this guy.

He's a Buchananoid jerkoff. Probably a pimply-faced cellar-dwelling 16-year-old. Any similarity between him and a sentient conservative is purely coincidental.

Thanks. Now I understand completely. He needs to learn that just because they won’t go out with you doesn’t mean you have to hate them.

The Rockefeller Republicans have blown everything for the Republican Party, big time, and all their idiotic condescension towards conservatives won’t resurrect them from the RINO mess they’ve made, but Sarah can, and if the silly, arrogant, pompous, wusses would just shut up for the rest of this primary, remembering that McCain was largely their doing, Sarah will win this.

McCain has not yet played the Jeremiah Wright card,

And he never will. Wouldn't be "Bipartisan".

People like McCain simply cannot believe anyone would really fall for Jeremiah Wright's BS theology.

Yossarian gradually came to realize that Milo Minderbender was for real, and he was really evil.
