With Gwen Ifill Moderating, Impartiality Can No Longer Be Expected at Vice Presidential Debate
Cleveland Leader ^ | October 1, 2008 - 3:23pm.

As debate moderators go, PBS' Gwen Ifill, who is scheduled to moderate the vice presidential debate between Sen. Joe Biden and Gov. Sarah Palin on Thursday, is far from impartial. Her support of Democratic candidate Barack Obama cannot be denied, but it sure can be shoved under the rug and brushed aside by the mainstream media.

Ifill just so happens to have written a book about Obama, "The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama." The book will be released on January 20, 2009 - a date which coincides with the inauguration of the next president of the United States.

The book's publisher, Random House, is already keeping busy by hyping up the book with a barage of YouTube clips that show Ifills pouring on the praise for Obama, and Obama-backing Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick. Random House and Ifill are undoubtedly banking on a win by Obama-Biden to boost her impending book sales.

The vice presidential debates are supposed to give the American people a chance to see the candidates discuss issues important to them, and it's expected that the moderator, who controls the tone and questions asked, to be impartial. But how can we expect a woman to treat both parties fairly when she has already grandiosely declared this the "Age of Obama"? They may as well just have named Keith Olbermann or Chris Matthews, both unabashedly pro-Obama journalists, to moderate the debate.

Imagine the scenario flipped: how much hell would Palin get if it turned out that the moderator wrote a book gushing praise for McCain and his bold vision for America, which also happened to be timed for release on Inauguration Day? Yea, I can't see that going over too well either.

While at this point we can't reasonably expect the Commission on Presidential Debates to choose another moderator, at the very least Ifills should be required to address the American public and fully disclose her affiliations and the impending book.

Was it ever expected? Frankly, I was shocked Jim Lehrer was balanced. It had to be killing him.

I don’t know what can be done at this point, Sarah is just screwed. Maybe people knowing will make her behave at least.

But someone at McCain’s campaign needs to be fired for this. They didn’t research this even a little???

Here’s something to take your mind of of the debate. Obama has his own Dish Network channel. #73

If it looks like GI is playing Gotcha with Sarah and not Biden, then if I was Sarah, I would interject somewhere in one of my answers, “How long did it take you to write that book praising my opponent, Sen. Obama?”

Amendment:

Oh God help us.

This has reached hysterical proportions I think. Obama has his own TV CHANNEL????

Is this a movie? Am I trapped inside some Bruce Willis action movie where the masses are being duped at ridiculous levels and someone is going to come in and bust open the operation and let us all out of this mindmelting misery.

And I’m not KIDDING!

Gwen Ifill is a partisan martinet who merely spouts canned cultural Marxist catch phrases.

In a recent interview I watched with her, she babbled "undocumented workers" whenever the other party referred to illegal aliens/illegal immigrants, became visibly agitated at the thought that they would not be able to attend colleges in the U.S. as residents, and basically showed that she didn't have an original thought in her brain, but was a broken record playing dim-witted Leftist Politico-Babble over and over.

Palin should demand she be replaced. Basically by anyone off the street, who would be better.

She can’t be removed now, she’s spent three weeks rehearsing with Biden, refining the questions and perfecting his responses. Besides, the media has spent thousands of hours working with her and Biden on their coverage of this event.

I think he Gwen Ifill card is being overplayed. She’s an intelligent and balanced journalist. Why do the Pubbies have their knickers in a knot?

Do you all have so little confidence in Sarah that you’re trying to make excuses for her even before the debate begins?

PLEEEEEEEZE! Gwen is just going to sit there and ask prepared questions. How bad can she be?

I agree; Ifel should be replaced. For Republicans to go forward under these circumstances is to demonstrate that they have no balls at all and, certainly, don’t deserve to be in the White House. If they are not willing to fight every battle on every front now, why should voters expect them to do so later?

McCain has had trouble with the base of the party, he is my Senator and even I have not voted for him since he first ran as a congressman. I only sent $ to the campaign after he selected Sarah Palin.

I have testified many times as an expert wittness, and if I had any…ANY conflicts of interest it was my duty and responsibility to recuse myself. THAT IS PROFESSIONALISM… to stay on, as Ifill will do, shows a total disregard for professionalism.

McCain is just being the fool I’ve seen for 20 plus years in Arizona.

Pray that Gov. Palin can pull McCain’s cheastnuts out of the fire.

Can you imagine if Corsi, the author of Obama Nation, was to moderate the next presidential debate?

Well, we could ignore fifty years of MSM track record, and hope for the best...

...or not.
