Barack Obama, "Call me if you need me" : Tom Coburn "can you hear me now"

Coburn calls Obama, McCain; urges joint statement on bailout

"...Through his spokesman, Coburn, R-Muskogee, confirmed that he called Obama, an Illinois Democrat, and McCain, an Arizona Republican.

John Hart, Coburn's spokesman, said Coburn "reached out to both Senators McCain and Obama last night to urge them to lead and set aside politics in order to help solve this serious financial crisis.

"His goal was not necessarily to prescribe any course of action but to urge both senators to personally engage in the very difficult legislative negotiations unfolding in Congress. Decisions about how to proceed are up to the respective campaigns and secondary to Dr. Coburn’s concern that Congress may not be able to pass a bill without the personal involvement of both Senators McCain and Obama.”

What is funny about this situation, Obama tries to make it seem as if it was his idea to call McCain about the issue when it clearly wasn't. Even the Washington Post got into the act when it wrote in its article on the matter and left the fact out that Coburn also called McCain:

"...Later that evening, Obama received a phone message from Sen. Tom Coburn, a conservative Oklahoma Republican with whom he has worked previously on legislation. According to Obama, Coburn suggested that a joint statement outlining these shared principles might be helpful.

At 8:30 a.m. yesterday, Obama called McCain to run the idea by him, but the two did not talk.

About 2:30 p.m., Obama was leaving a rally at a minor league baseball stadium in Dunedin, Fla., when McCain returned his call. In a conversation that lasted about five minutes, Obama said the two discussed the joint statement idea and exchanged contact information so their aides could follow up."

One quote that Obama stated should be an eye-opener to those who are still deciding on Obama.

Here is the quote: "It is going to be part of the president's job to deal with more than one thing at once."

True and it will be the president's job to put in priority the importance of those jobs and it is clear Obama put politics and the campaign above fixing a 700 billion dollar problem.

“Set aside politics”? No thanks. I do not need a bailout. I say throw the bums out and start over. Looks like Ron Paul is not really such a KOOK after all. Who are the KOOKS now?

Remember, the man-child has to keep doing FUNDRAISERS or he is a dead man. Maybe that’s why the man-child can’t go to and stay in Washington.

I think McCain put Obama in check with this move. Let’s see how B.O. plays this next.

BTW: Does anyone think it would be a good idea to send Sarah Palin to debate Obama to further throw Obama off track. See if we can fluster Obama even more? Sarah could frame it as, I might be called upon to step-in if elected so it is appropriate that I debate a man who would be the President of the United States.

What do you think of the idea?

I caught that comment about having been called by Coburn as the first step in this saga.

The media ignored that fact and allowed the story to be that Obama began the entire process.

Obama admitted that McCain suggested heading to D.C. to get this crisis resolved. O said he considered it something McCain was mulling.

"What do you think of the idea?"

Nope.

We need to save her for Biden. When Biden loses it during the debate and launches into a derogatory, sexist, "Look here little lady" type rant, it is going to cut Obama off at the knees. When Obama and McCaine do get to debate Obama will have lost a lot of momentum.

There's another piece to that. McCain has a LOT of money (including the $80 million from the US Taxpayer) still in the bank. He gets to pull all his TV advertising and stop his campaign trips at least through the weekend ... in part because he's going to be getting a LOT of free media that will make up for what his campaign isn't spending to put out. It's basically like getting a free tank of gas.

I think Sarah can do both. She will drive the Rats absolutely crazy.

“It is going to be part of the president's job to deal with more than one thing at once.”

Really? Irony. It occurs at the best of times. Obama’s been doing only one thing his entire and all too short political career to date: campaign for the office of President. If ever there was a one trick pony...”PRESENT!”

This is Obama’s katrina moment folks, McCain better seize the moment. Obama’s deferring to Brownie Reid saying he’ll return if needed. He’s fiddiling while the country burns.

“This is the greatest threat to our nation in history...since the great depression. I’ve talked almost daily to Secretary Paulson” ...almost...

“Look I’m really busy ...I’m a multitasker...I can think about myself, practice my speeches, rehearse my debate rhetoric, put gray in my hair, and tell congress to call me if they need me.”

Interesting that Colburn call BH0 on Tuedday night telling him he’s needed in Washington but 0bama thinks he is worthless there now and is worth more on the fundraising trail.
