It’s time for Texas to come to the rescue of the union and split, finally, into the five states it is permitted to divide into, so that Republicans can gain back some measure of control in the Senate.

At one time Bob Barr was a conservative stalwart and a GOP Congressman from Georgia. Somewhere along the way, he has kind of gone off the deep end.

Barr is messing with Texas.. his lawsuit is a little different than just saying they missed the deadline because Texas law does allow for extensions. Barr is challenging this section of the law.

Section 181.005:
(b) A political party is entitled to have the names of its nominees placed on the ballot, without qualifying under Subsection (a), in each subsequent general election following a general election in which the party had a nominee for a statewide office who received a number of votes equal to at least five percent of the total number of votes received by all candidates for that office.

Basically, he doesn't like that candidates who have no support, don't have the same privileges as candidates who have a majority support.. IE, if you can't get the support you need under the law, sue your way into it.. Typical ACLU patsy.

What are you guys worried about? Election rules aren’t promulgated for Republicans or Democrats.

Right, like a defacto disenfranchisement in the county’s 2nd most populous state is really going to happen. That would make 2000 look like a ride at the county carnival.
