Is anybody else bothered by the way the word “banned” has been bandied about in this faux-controversy? To ban a book means to prohibit its publication. If I don’t buy a book, I haven’t banned it. If I buy a book and then, on closer inspection, decide I wouldn’t want my small children reading it and remove it from the house, I haven’t banned it. There may be perfectly good reasons for a library to decide it made an unwise decision in purchasing a book. Does every book that’s published deserve to be in a public library? Once a library makes a decision to buy a book, is this irrevocable?
The hypocrisy of the Left is boundless. The only censors on the warpath these days are multiculti zealots determined not to offend Muslim sensibilities. Can you say Jewel of Medina?
“Palin also spoke publicly about the issue, saying that her comments were in regards to library policy and that she had no particular books or other material in mind for removal”
Gee, wonder why the librarian was fired thereafter and then, when pressured by public outrage, given her job back. Must have just been a coeekeedink
“We at the City of Wasilla have received many emails and requests for information about banned or censored books at the Wasilla Library...”
Odd. Wonder why so many were sending emails and requests about a problem that didn’t exist?
WhaaaaAAA?!
