I'm probably out of step with most everyone. But I don't really want to hear about national service. I simply want these clowns to realize they serve us. The purpose of this republic is to let men live their live in peace, guaranteed life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I believe that I am bound to defend my country. Bu I do not believe any govt has the right to determine that I must or should provide any other service that they may deem desirable. Charity is not the province of govt.

I agree about “national service”. Forced charity is abundant in the public school system. (gotta get to them early in life) When I argue that giving to any charity organization should be voluntary, I get looks from teachers/other parents like I’m Ebeneezer Scrooge.

Didn’t have a chance to see much of this “forum”. Was there a Winner/Loser?

Gotto agree, compulsory volunteerism is not voluntary. Everyone should be of service to their community in their own way. Every employer serves his community by creating jobs and by trading in desired goods. Every act of commerce is community service, the fact that it is not selfless is what irks the left.

Don't know about winner/loser. I just thought it was all piffle. I know what you mean about the public school system. The idea of compulsory charity is entrenched. It's the basis of the bastardized Christianity of liberalism. It's desirable to take the fruits of one person's labor and give it to another, you deem more worthy.
