why have most Americans accepted the legitimacy of the capitalist republic in which they live

Because it works? Because if you work hard, develop yourself, you can do anything, and I mean anything in your life you want. Take Chef Duff. In a communist society would he be allowed to pursue a dream of combining food with art?

Not only the above, but this supposed work of historical scholarship has NO bibliography or endnotes.

Doesn’t matter one whit though, it’s on the syllabi of history courses in colleges throughout the land.

Just look it up on Amazon.com. Right up there with Mao’s little red book.

because it is compatible with human nature, freedom, natural rights, the motive of self interest, and duty to pursue one's own happiness. And Marxism is not

What really puts the lie to garbage like People’s History is the fact that if the average people involved were so oppressed and subjected to such awfulness, why didn’t they leave? Canada was just to the north (and of course many Tories went there after the Revolutionary War), and boats went to other countries in the hemisphere. If they wanted to go back to Europe, I suppose that wouldn’t have been too difficult. Then why did they stay in this terrible, pitiable, workers hellhole? Gee, maybe they liked it here. Maybe they liked being Americans. I guess that thought has never dawned on leftist nitwits like Zinn.
