I have the same question, and I haven’t seen anyone answer it yet, so I think I’ll do some poking around this morning when I get a chance.

I can’t imagine that replacing a perfectly healthy candidate conveys anything but indecision and second-guessing, which is not a great thing to demonstrate live during a campaign. If Biden is going to be booted off the ticket, he’s going to have to experience a serious incapacitating illness, or he’s going to have to shuffle off this mortal coil altogether.

But no matter how it might go down, it would be ugly for the Dems. With the way the McCain campaign has been handling itself and with the media blood frenzy at any bit of controversy, I have to think that any replacement of the Dem VP candidate for any reason at this point would result in utter chaos in the Dem party and in the media.

That’s exactly what I’m thinking. No matter how they did it, replacing Biden would be very ugly and it would make Obama look even weaker and more indecisive than he looks now.
