Daughters
mccainblogette ^ | Meghan McCain

Posted on 09/02/2008 6:59:26 AM PDT by flyfree

The first political convention I ever attended was when my mom was pregnant with me in 1984 and the Republican Party nominated Ronald Reagan for a second term as President. I have been on political stages and in campaigns since before I could walk or talk. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that it is difficult to establish your identity and independence as the son or daughter of a politician. When I was 14 years old, a reporter questioned my father about me having a hypothetical abortion, had I been pregnant at 14. This reporter's question single-handedly changed my life. This story comes up in almost every profile written about me and in almost every interview. It's a rough go being the son or daughter of a politician. I have not known Bristol Palin very long, but there is a certain kinship I feel to her as I do other political daughters such as Chelsea Clinton, Jenna and Barbara Bush and Mary Cheney. You can't fully understand it unless you have lived it. So I just wanted to let it be known that I support Bristol and the entire Palin family.

Sure, Meghan, it's so rough being up there in the families of our political class, living on taxpayer money.

What are you going to do next: tell us to eat cake?

Good on her. Also, I really enjoy reading her blogs. She is a good writer.

Go McCain/Palin

She lives off her Grandfather’s money. There are negatives to the position she is in. Imagine being followed day and night by photographers and media, not letting you have a moment of privacy, digging through every aspect of your life or just making up tabloid dirt if they can’t find anything.

You know, I bet it is hard. Look what has happened to Bristol Palin. How would you like to be humiliated like she has?

The current state of reporting in this country is obscene. It would be extremely interesting to find that original reporter and confront him or her with Meghan's revelation.

That was a ridiculous, crass, and idiotic statement. Just because someone may have money doesn’t mean that life is easy. Go troll somewhere else.

The Dims have been on the air here in DC calling Chris Plante of WMAL calling Gov Palin a hypocrite for her non-”feminist” positions and saying that the only reason she is not letting her daughter have an abortion is because she (Sarah) is running for VP and that if she wasn’t then her daughter would be having an abortion in a “new york minute.”

This election really is opening up to the world how racist and sexist the left really is.

If the McCains were so well-off, then why is Juan taking a six-figure Senate salary while not even showing up for votes? Shucks, getting paid six-figures to go campaign for President is a sweet deal!

If any one of us little people skipped out on the job like McCain does, we'd be fired.

As for Meghan, I realize she didn't choose her parents, including a douchebag of a dad; but I still only have about as much sympathy for her and her family as I do for the rich frat boys here at UVA who lord their wealth over the rest of us.

meghan mccain and other children of conservative politicians have had to endure what i can only describe as vicious, verbal assaults visited upon them by liberals intent on defaming and destroying their parents. how many negatives stories did we have to read about jenna and barbara bush? the next onslaught from the left, directed towards Palin’s children, has already started with the tin-foiled hat smear on DailyKOS about Bristol being the real mother of Palin’s son, Trig.

I hope the McCain/Palin camp takes a proactive stance on the democrat smear machine...they need to appoint an anti-smear Czar who addresses these baseless personal attacks on McCain/Palin as quickly as they come. Give the anti-smear Czar a blog or a website, update it daily, and make him available to the media to regularly respond to what most certainly will be more smears and lies coming from moonbat smear merchants.

Being the child of any celebrity is hard. Being the child of a politician is particularly hard, because it throws you into the adult world whether you want it or not and makes you the target of the same people targeting your parents. That’s all she’s saying, and it has nothing to do with money.

Unlike Bristol Palin, I had a mom who sacrificed her career to stay home and take care of my sister and myself.

Somehow, I don't think I'll end up in Bristol Palin's position any time soon.

it wasn’t her choice as to who her parents were and as for the question the jerk reporter asked, it’s too bad john couldn’t have bopped him in the nose for being so disrespectful toward his daughter.

I agree, livius, it’s not just politicians’ kids and it is much harder than most people realize. Here was my comment when the story broke yesterday:

“PALIN ADMITS HER 17-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER IS PREGNANT

9YearLurker to woofie

Those who don’t think it is incredibly difficult to grow up in a political or otherwise prominent family have never been there. It’s easy to just think the kids somehow have it made, but the reality demonstrated time and again, across time and place, is that it is very hard.

As a kid, your every action is seen as a reflection on your parents, and if you are less than perfect you have betrayed them. Yet, at the age when peer opinions matter more than anything, to be seen as a better-than-thou ‘goody two shoes’ is the kiss of death.

The usual deal is for these kids to put in hours upon hours making a good show of it, but also taking in dig after dig from jealous peers. Usually the pressure seeps out by the kids in some ways going overboard proving to their friends that they’re not holier than thou. Of course, this is also the age when a little rebellious independence from your parents is healthy and almost unavoidable.

Altogether a tough mix for most.

Considering they give a couple a million to charity each year, he seems to be returning all and more of it. Why not take your jealousy to a place that cares. I would rather our elected officials be paid six figures than the job be reserved for just the extreme elite who can afford to live with no incoming coming in...Frankly, what senators are paid, in comparison to what they could make in the free market, is tiny..

If any one of us little people skipped out on the job like McCain does, we'd be fired.
Yet his bosses, those who vote him into office, keep electing him. They seem to be happy with the job he is doing.. You seem to have a burr up your butt over their money. Jealous? Did a guy in a BMW cut you off on your way to work today?

"Somehow, I don't think I'll end up in Bristol Palin's position any time soon."

No, you are quite capable of humiliating yourself with your own postings.

I found your comments to be quite pathetic.

If you weren’t so rude and immature, you might have something to say to the rest of us. But at FR, we are a bit more thoughtful, and less emotional. Try it, you will be more respected for it.

..and look what we have. Bristol is in a family that came from very little, a hard working, blue collar family, to one that could well be in the White House.

I doubt, however, your mom raised you to be rude and jealous of other's success. Maybe you should ask your mommy what she feels about your attitude about the Palin family.
