I heard that was the source before the internet was created or Wiki was even invented.

to say it means N D in Semaphore means it could also mean D N as well or even NOD, OND, DON, NDO, ODN....

As with all symbols of the left they mean what ever they want them to mean no matter what the source.

One of the first Nazi units into Poland used is as an unit symbol on their tanks.

Wiki does mention the Nazi use of a similar symbol. I never knew where it came from. But I had heard on FR in the past that it was from a nuclear disarmament symbol (likely, I forgot the semaphore aspect).

Just looked it up on Wiki today. Never heard any of the other thoughts on its origin (broken cross, Nazis or anything else) before today.

If you check the Straight Dope article I linked, you can see that the runic meaning has been out there a long time.

Would be just like the Nazis to be dredging up old runes for their tanks.
