I thought in some instances the morphine was used while they were zonked out and pulled from life support (including feeding tubes). They didn’t have to be in a coma to be given the morphine.

Maybe, I don’t know about coma. I do know that they use pumps on the IV lines that can feed a steady drip, and the patient can push a button to get a higher dose for a while.
