How is it that we have failed to coalesce our collective outrage into an effective movement?

Because you're trying to fit antiquated 1968 notions of the world into the completely different world of 2008. It's as if there were a whole goofy bunch of people in 1950, standing on the edge of the space age, yelling and screaming that we needed to go back to doing things like used to do 'em in 1910.

Guess what? You're old. Your era is over. You're irrelevant. Sane people laugh at you. Learn to knit.

What MADE the protest marches of the late '60s "work" (large numbers) was the imminent threat of--the existential crisis of--BEING DRAFTED AND SENT TO VIETNAM! That, plus a much higher rate of casualities.
