Any threat of that nature should be an immediate notification to the police. “Making a threatening communication” is a crime that could result in a serious misdemeanor or felony charge.
Importantly, the typical individual who makes threats on the Internet is not skilled enough to cover their tracks, so it is often an easy conviction.
If you are skilled enough to track them down, it is even better to notify their local police. Every bit of work you can save the police means it is much more likely that the threatener will be prosecuted.
