News reports indicate that Russia may have tried to bomb the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, which runs through Georgia. If so, the bombs missed, and flow of oil through the pipeline was not interrupted. The BTC pipeline runs from the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean coast of Turkey; note Russia to the north and Iran to the south:

Actually, the PKK bombed the BTC pipeline in Turkey in the middle of last week, and nothing is going through it yet.
Twelve thousand barrels of oil were spilled, and the pressure in the pipeline has been lost all the way back to Baku.
There is also a pipeline, for oil or gas I don’t recall, that runs from Azerbaijan to Poti on the Black Sea. Poti, as many of you know, has been shelled. The docks are heavily damaged.

thanks, best map I’ve seen.
So....this is about controlling the gas and oil pipeline afterall. All about money.
You might recall Putin's discussion about a year or so ago, with IRAN, about forming an OPEC for natural gas? Well lookie here above. The Euros better get real serious about helping Georgia, with us, or on of the next winters is going to be either REALLY COLD or REALLY EXPENSIVE.
I've seen many an uninformed FReeper on other threads saying we ain't got a dog in this fight. Jaysooos, what friggin' insanity is that.
Thanks Ernest. Back to $4 a gallon gas, among other things:
