Now we see why Pelosi shut this issue down. I forgot about this.

Bush did the right thing on his end. Let's see what the damn Congress does.

I think 9/11 would be a good date to end the ban and declare energy Independence.

Plus an executive order to fast-track drilling on the OCS, circumventing the EPA.

So Bush is still palying chess while the Dems are playing checkers.

Absolutely. Otherwise, the oil companies will be having to "F" around with the EPA, which could take years.

This is a great idea! It would be a great way to keep this issue on the radar screen as the campaign season goes into high intensity mode in the last five weeks. The linkage between Republicans and Energy Independence might tip a number of House seats in our favor and even give McCain a boost.

“Bush can really make them choke on this issue”

Yes that's true; but will he do it? The price per barrel is dropping so is the price at the pump. The Saudi’s made a bundle in the futures market by trading amongst themselves to drive up prices then dumping on greedy speculators - when we are just threatening to drill. The oil companies made a bundle. Don't forget the Saudi’s & oil companies have these politicians in their pockets both Dems & Repubs.

The last thing the Saudi’s want is for us to be energy independent so my bet is they will cool the price per barrel the price at the pump will come down a little the public will forget the politicians will declare victory and drilling won't happen.

IT would be nice to think the Republicans are not totally inept.
Sort of like the T ball team that always loses wins against the big kids, stomping them just once.

What we don't want to happen (I think) is that Congress doesn't attach conditions to the lifting of the ban.

We don't really know if there are "terms" to the present congressional ban.

Pelosi wants NEW tax money from the oil companies...Tax them to death....Guess who they have to pass it to...In fact, the Dems want both...raise the tax at the pump and more taxes from the oil companies.

****The last thing the Saudi’s want is for us to be energy independent so my bet is they will cool the price per barrel the price at the pump will come down a little the public will forget the politicians will declare victory and drilling won’t happen. ****

With China and other nations becoming more industrialized, I think the Saudi’s know that it would be in their best interest to have the oil on their lands used at a moderated pace. If we add our own oil to the available pool it will stabilize prices which help all economies, and the Saudi’s get to stay in power longer. The sooner they run out of oil, the sooner the house of Saud falls.

Very important. If the ban is not renewed, Pelosi and Co. will try to put sneak another one in (in an innocuous bill) and hope the Republicans don't see it.

We can keep this going. The GOP is committed to this outside a handful of turncoats. Even those on the non starter gang of 10 should see the writing on the wall.

This has to happen at the local level. People have to mobilize, get to their local candidate and have him go before the media and say if elected he will support and vote for the immediate opening of the OCS for drilling. Then hammer his opponent as a anti-energy candidate.

That’s how you win elections.
