My thoughts on the whole thing? Adulterers and adulteresses are slimeballs. That being said, I wouldn't vote for a sexually faithful liberal (oxymoron?) over a conservative who had made a mistake. If he admits it and shows some repentance. If he doesn't, I tend to doubt his conservative credentials.
It is not hypocritical to judge what is important and what is even more important. I don't expect, or demand, that liberals think any differently on this. Vote the issues, not the man.
However, I would use it as a criterion in voting between two conservatives.

I thought he was gay. I am relieved he isn't and we all sit down once in a while on the bench of lust and happyness. Having said that, it would have been nice for him to be the knight in shining armore protecting ailing Brunhilde. But since we live in 2008 and not in the renosance area, he just forgot himself one night. Now he has a child and guess what he can afford it. It is not easy to see your partner detoriating and beeing Sic (it is BEING) eaten up with cancer and knowing the end is near sooner or later. So give pretty boy some slack we don't need him for president anyhow. There was always a phony hue around him anyhow.
Now you think Edwards was a phony. Maybe he wanted a spouse in both Americas - Liz in the RICH America, and Ms Hunter in the Poor America.
If this story is true, I feel terrible for Mrs. Edwards. She is afterall suffering from terminal cancer. Also I'm rather shocked because Edwards appeared so squeaky clean while running for the presidential nomination. Edwards needs to come forward and tell the truth. Otherwise the press will tell the story for him.
[So far the liberal press is covering for him.]
I won't hold my breath waiting to get this from the DBM.

This really deserves to be gold-plated and put in the Spin Hall of Fame.
If a liberal were found schtupping an underage minority boy while holding a smoking pistol by his own wife's dead body, the libs would say "Here come the hypocritical Republicans again, bashing non-whites, homosexuals, widowers...and even gun-owners!"
