I knew a retired 0-6 who once made the comment that there was always a huge amount of pressure that you felt every single day. He couldn’t ever take more than a week off...worrying about some episode occurring and he ending up with blame over the episode. He had to worry about drug busts numbers...officer wives club rages...congressional investigations....audits of financial expenditures...shoddy constructed barracks...poor safety practices...poorly executed exercises....corrupt Club managers...and even environmental practices. As this guy indicated...he had rely on people doing their jobs...which eighty percent were more than capable It was the other twenty percent that always tripped him up and triggered issues. As he suggested...it was 300 percent of what a CEO would face, and he was happy to retire and take a lesser stressed atmosphere.
