Honest question. I know there are several power plants that run on garbage. Why aren’t more of them being built? We produce a never ending supply of garbage and communities and states are continually fighting about what to do with it. Burn it for electricity.

I know it's done in Germany. They are actually building slightly more garbage burning capacity than there is garbage. They are counting on imports from Italy (where there is not enough capacity to handle all the garbage) etc. to continue. As far as I know no garbage goes into landfills any more: It's either recycled or turned into energy.

A company is trying to build a biomass generator in Westfield, MA. BIOMASS! The ecofreaks are trying to block it because it might affect their air quality. The biggest problem is nearby Westfield State College and their liberal whack job students and faculty.
NIMBY rules!
