Liberal Welfare Dilemma: "Lunch Can Be Hard to Give Away"
The Patriot Room ^ | July 14, 2008 | Bill Dupray

Posted on 07/14/2008 7:50:27 AM PDT by Bill Dupray

Maryland can't find any kids to eat free SCHOOL lunches during the SUMMER. One genius said, "We would go into alleys and hand out fliers about the program." Maybe they should check the dumpsters, landfills, and junkyards too. Or maybe the kids are just eating lunch at home.

Undaunted, liberals will keep trying like hell to throw our money away.

I got a complimentary copy of this paper at the hotel in DC and had the same reaction.

Typical bureaucrat reaction: keep the program alive and growing at all costs.

These programs are sows slopping at an endless trough. Sometimes you just need to shoot pig and make some bacon.

I guess that means they will soon lower the property taxes and eliminate a few state government positions since that service is no longer necessary.

Maybe the cost of getting the kids to the school is more than the value of the lunch.

Could it be that kids, who spend September through June waiting for summer, don’t want to go to school if they don’t have to, even for a free lunch?

So, if the gov’t has a program and no one comes to see it, does that still make it useless?

Put some cigarettes in those free lunches and the parents will come and get them ...

If the state thinks that these kids will starve without school lunches, then we need year round schooling - and education, too, since they apparently can’t read in only 9 months a year, either.

Liberals use these food giveaway programs as a tool to propound their idiotic message of a starving America. If people show up to grab the free chow, the libs use that as “proof” of a starving citizenry. On one hand there are doctors and health activists whining about an increasingly obese America (true). On the other side you have the socialist-minded libs who are determined to show that free-market capitalism leads to starving wretches who have to scrape for food (false). If anyone thinks America is starving, walk into a Walmart some time. It’s a fact that most under-average income people shop there. They don’t appear to have missed many meals.

I just had a lot of fun this morning reading up on the government Poverty Industry in the US.

Let's first agree on a few things:

The poverty industry produces nothing.
The poverty industry does not add 1c to the National GNP.
Try to determine how big this bureaucracy is, including all the state, county and local employees.

Don't ever try to determine how much of this multi-billion program is actually delivered to true "poverty" Americans. You'll be labeled insensitive, compassionate-deprived, or a lot worse.

Those hundreds of thousands (millions?) of employees, producing nothing would have to collect welfare if this program didn't exist.

Anyone still wonder why they need to go shake the bushes to get more people to accept the free lunches?
