I imagine the media couldn’t care less...I think it’s all about his ego. He’s made up this persona as a black, presented himself as African-American and as BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA - and to be forced to present the public with proof of ID that shows him to be BARRY DUNHAM or BARRY SOETORO - possibly more Kenyan/Indonesian by nationality would blow such a big hole in the created persona, he would be deflated like the balloon full of hot air he really is.
Beckwith has it right. His opening statement on THE OBAMA FILE says it all:

By birth, blood and training, a Muslim, who has been a member of a Black-African church for 20 years

Ah, but if the COLB says "Barry Soetoro" that wouldn't disprove Barack's statement that he was born "Barack Hussein Obama II"; Barack could reasonably(*) claim that the name on the COLB would have confused things, so he wanted to show a birth certificate with the name he was born with.
(*) Well, liberals would think it was reasonable anyway.
I don't really see how the (hypothetical) fact that Barack once bore the name "Soetoro" would hurt him. As such, I don't think liberals would hold a "cover-up" of that information against him. Instead, they'd view conservatives' efforts to pry into such matters as a demonstration that conservatives are evil.
