In dissent, Justice John Paul Stevens wrote that the majority "would have us believe that over 200 years ago, the Framers made a choice to limit the tools available to elected officials wishing to regulate civilian uses of weapons."

Is it me or does this prove how radically socialist and totalitarian the left wing members of SCOTUS are?

Scary, isn’t it? Stevens should be impeached for his utter disregard of the basic purpose and meaning of the bill of rights, which was ALWAYS about limiting the “tools” government has to “regulate” the citizenry.

No, I had the exact reaction as you. And I don’t even own or plan to own a gun.
But I absolutely defend the right to do so.

Well, yes Justice Stevens, that is exactly what our framers intended.

“would have us believe that over 200 years ago, the Framers made a choice to limit the tools available to elected officials wishing to regulate civilian uses of weapons.”

Yes they did.

And Stevens would have us believe that 150 years ago, the authors of the XIVth amendment made a choice to forbid regulations on abortions while they were busy trying to protect black ex-slaves from being de facto slaves. The Constitution says “right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” but says nothing of abortion at all. What an idiot.

For what purpose would Stevens guess the Second Amendment was written? While it is certainly true (especially today) that lots of legislation is written for purposes other than what is supposedly intended, it would seem bizarre that legislation that says "The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" wouldn't be intended to prevent government from infringing the right to keep and bear arms.
