Churchill was as giddy as a school girl at the “outbreak” of WWI. Something to consider? The punitive aspects of Versailles? No? Am I a Nazi and I just don’t know it? A useful idiot of the Hard-Right?
C’mon, kids. It was a group effort, but the realpolitic approach of Britain deserves some special attention. No more than that, just...attention—attention she hasn’t been paid in the past because of the halo of WWII. I thank Buchanan for pointing these things out; I don’t absolve National Socialism of anything as a result.
I’m far less interested in an emotional investment in intentional interpretation, and in accusations of Hilter-apologist “revisionism,” than I am in figuring out how to avoid similar trainwrecks of history in the future. The same way I examine radical Islam. Everybody on board with that basic concept, if not my specific angles?
That’ll happen.
Sorry, but all you are doing is jabbering mantra that has been preached in politically correct classrooms (meaning d*mn near all of them) for generations now.
"'Oh, oh," they preach, "everyone was to blame, it was all inevitable, those nasty Brits & French, they are really the bad guys, ganging up and picking on poor Germany, etc., etc., more b*ll cr*p, etc..."
The simple truth of the matter is: Germany was THE dominant, aggressive, belligerent military power within Europe.
The Germans were SO powerful they imagined they could take on nearly the WHOLE rest of Europe, and WIN.
And they were almost right. In fact, they WERE right. They could have taken on the whole rest of Europe and won. But what they could not do, was take on all the rest of Europe, PLUS the French and British colonial forces, PLUS the United States.
Who is to blame for starting the war? How could it be any simpler to determine?
Who first declared war on their neighbors? Austria and Germany!
Who first invaded their neighboring countries? Austria and Germany!
Which was the dominant power, who called the shots, Germany or Austria? Obviously Germany.
Case closed, end of discussion.
Right?
Again, I recommend reading: Fromkin: Europe's Last Summer
Remember, the Germans had plans, the so-called Schlieffen Plan, to defeat France and Russia.
The French had plans to defend against a German attack.
So why is this even a matter of debate?
