What ideas would you like your kids to grow up with, or are they free to decide on their own such issues as whether stealing and adultery are okay, without any guidance from you?
Stealing is not okay in my family. Even disregarding my favorite book, logic tells us that theft leads to anarchy, which hurts everyone.
Adultery is not morally neutral in my family, again even disregarding what the Bible says. As a teacher, I see children from families torn apart by adultery and children from intact families. While it's not an absolute in the sense of mathematical or physical laws, there is a clear difference between the vast majority of kids from intact marriages and the vast majority from divorces. While there are times when divorce is the only answer, when all lesser options have failed or cannot be employed, the (many) divorces motivated by nothing stronger than boredom or a desire to be "fulfilled" carry a heavy price for the children, a price that I consider unacceptable.
How can a parent not address such issues?
