It’s a shame that Ron Paul supporters such as myself have to get tarnished with the same brush as the wacko fringe of his supporters here in Nevada who appear to be sniffing glue while drinking the Kool-Aid between taking drags from a crack pipe.
In case you missed it, a small band of Paultard agitators - who now have anointed themselves as THE authorities on Robert’s Rules of Order - are attempting to convene their own Nevada Republican Convention on June 28th in Reno. Only…they can’t. Nevada state law is pretty explicit and clear on this matter…
“In presidential election years, on the call of a national party convention, but one set of party conventions and but one state convention shall be held on such respective dates and at such places as the state central committee of the party shall designate.”
The state central committee, through its Executive Board, has the authority to set the date and location of the convention - not a gaggle of malcontent Paultards. And since the state central committee has now officially announced that the state convention which was recessed in April will be reconvened on July 26th, it would also be a violation of state law to try to conduct a separate Paultard convention on June 28th. As the law clearly states, there is to be one, and only one, state convention.
That hasn’t deterred the Paultards, though. Some Paultard dentist named Wayne Terhune sent out a press release yesterday headlined “Nevada Delegates Reject State Party’s Date for State Convention.” Of course, it wasn’t the Nevada delegates who “rejected” the date for re-convening; it was just the Paultards. Nevertheless, Terhune comically writes:
“Nevada State delegates who have arranged to call the Nevada State Republican Convention out of recess on June 28th have rejected the State Party’s call to reconvene on July 26th, saying this date is too late because it doesn’t allow delegates to the National Convention a reasonable chance to make travel accommodations.”
The press release blubbers on…
“As noted in previous releases, according to State and Party rules, as well as Robert’s Rules of Order, all that appears to be necessary to call the Convention out of recess is for a majority of the delegates to be present. At that time, the Chairman will be called for, and if he is not in attendance, a new chair can be elected.”
What a bunch of yahoos. Send in the clowns. Popcorn! Get your popcorn!
Here’s how this will likely play out now. The Paultards will meet on June 28th. They’ll have their little rogue shindig which will have no standing whatsoever. It will be impossible to credential any delegates since none of them have the official delegate list - and anyone they might “elect” to attend the national convention will never be recognized or seated by the Republican National Committee. So the Paultards will make the trip to Minneapolis for nothing. Which is fine by me. It’s their time and money.
However, expect the Paultards to then boycott the official July 28th re-convening of the convention. That means there’s a very good chance that the official meeting won’t be able to muster a quorum in order to conduct official business. Which will mean either (a) no delegates from Nevada will go to the national convention, or (b) the state party leadership will select the delegates to go to the national convention.
Either way, the Paultards are going to be left outside in the rain crying like little babies, whining about Robert’s Rules of Order. Maybe I’ll send over a case of pacifiers to their confab on the 26th.
Reality comes in a weak second place with delusional people.These people need to either get a grip or get on medication.
PS.Every Ron Paul supporter in our little community was semi-certifiable BEFORE Paul came on the scene.Just nutty folks latching onto a dream.

Paul attracted his huge weirdo fringe, and hasn’t disavowed it. It’s obviously something he wants, so why complain?
Reality is nowhere even close to home with these nutjobs. Ron Paul finished nearly 40% behind in Nevada. How they think they deserve any part in the process and at the same time claim that they represent the Constitution is beyond me. At best it appears they’re attempting to hijack democracy with mob antics.
No doubt they are being very selective in the rules they follow. More than likely they have something in the State GOP constitution that looks like this:
“No provision hereof shall supersede or abrogate any of the provisions of the statutes of the state of Iowa, the Constitution of the Republican Party of Iowa and the rules of the Republican National Convention which are in conflict herewith.”
This supercedes any Robert’s Rules of Order, which is also likely stated in their bylaws. Here’s ours:
“Robert’s Rules of Order Revised shall prevail at all meetings of the Committee except as shall be altered by the Code of Iowa, the National Republican Party Constitution, or by the Constitution or By-Laws of this Committee.”

I am a Republican. I live in Nevada. I was a delegate to the 2008 Nevada Republican State Convention. Ron Paul supporters were about to win a majority of Nevada’s delegates to the national convention when the State Party Chairwoman, Sue Lowden, ordered that the convention be recessed indefinitely without a discussion or a vote. This is an infraction of Robert’s Rules of Order which the State GOP uses as the basis for its parliamentary procedures.
Prior to this illegal action on the part of Sue Lowden the Ron Paul supporters were able to convince a majority of the assembled delegates to amend the convention rules to allow nominations from the floor.
There were to be two sets of elections. The first round of elections were intended to elect delegates corresponding to each of the congressional districts. The Ron Paul supporters won the first 7 out of 9 of these elections. In my own congressional district one of the most famous Republicans in Nevada, Bruce Woodbury, a clark county commissioner since 1982, lost his delegate election to three completely unknown Ron Paul volunteers.
Ron Paul supporters were on their way to winning the majority of the remaining “At-Large” delegates when the McCain campaign started to encourage their supporters to flee the convention hall in order to break quorum. When this failed the State Chairwoman, Sue Lowden, simply ordered the convention to be recessed without a discussion or a vote.
The reality is that Ron Paul supporters in Nevada played by the rules, won, and the State GOP leadership took their ball and ran home.
The reality is that, at least in the State of Nevada, the Ron Paul Republicans represent a real political force.
