papieren, bitte!

In one of the most absolutely cocked-over ideas I've seen in all my born days, the City of Washington D.C. has decided to set up "Neighborhood Safety Zones" in certain areas of the District of Columbia.

Once a neighborhood is declared a "Neighborhood Safety Zone" DeeCee Police will stop all vehicles entering these zones and demand identification proving that the driver lives in the neighborhood, or provide a -- and let me be accurate here -- "legitimate reason to enter the neighborhood".

Anyone not providing papers identification or a "legitimate reason to enter the neighborhood" will be -- and I quote -- "forced to leave".

Anyone objecting to being refused entry into the "Neighborhood Safety Zone" will face arrest for failing to obey police.

This sort of bushwa is EXACTLY what you bloody well get when the sodding government is the only folks allowed to carry guns. This sort of absolute felching gradoo is EXACTLY what you get when the citizens are disarmed.

Shame on the DC Police department. Shame! You are supposed to be peace officers, not some mouth-breathing knock-off of the gods-be-damned gestapo. And that goes double for Mayor Fenty, Police Chief Cathy Lanier and Attorney General Peter Nickles. Where, in the name of all that's holy, do you think that you are, World War 2 Warsaw?

A leftist utopia of the sort Obama would like to impose nationally.

Nothing new here. Anybody walking on the public street is on property not his and is subject to stoppage by any police of the state. You are not the public.

It’s plenty distasteful, but realistically the only people who will be affected are criminals and lost tourists who are likely to end up getting killed if they stray into these “special” neighborhoods. Hopefully a correct decision in Heller will drastically change things in DC. Right now, I expect close to 100% of the non-criminals living in these areas support the program. When they’re armed, as they should be, they’ll be much more likely to tell the police “Bug off, we’ll handle it.”

For now, as long as no one who lives in the affected areas, and doesn’t have a serious criminal record, registers a formal complaint, I’m not going to protest. It’s the government’s fault that things were ever allowed to get this bad, but right now, there are a lot of desperate and terrified innocent people living in these neighborhoods who want this sort of protection. They don’t need us raising ideological objections from our comfortable perches in safe neighborhoods.

It's supposed to be German for "please." It's actually spelled bitte.

I believe it’s a snippet from the D-Day movie “The Longest Day”. It is asked immediately after the speaker shoots the German yelling “Bitte, bitte!”

There is no such word as Papieren. The correct word is Papiere which is the plural from Papier (paper)

It's not bittuh, although it might sound that way, but it's bitte and means please.

Where are you getting that from?

Probably from the sound of the word bitte

It is German but it's actually spelled with a capital B

Of course now that the precedent has been created... they can do it in your area as well, looking for drugs.... or guns.

No thanks.
