Senator John McCain invites potential running mates to his ranch. Who do you like?

Posted on 05/25/2008 2:02:16 PM PDT by Sun

I heard on tv that Gov. Bobby Jindal, Mitt Romney, Gov. Charlie Crist, Rob Portman, Senator Sam Brownback, Senator Joe Lieberman were invited to Senator McCain's ranch, and some (or all) are potential running mates.

So I'm doing some research on them, and would like to hear what other FReepers think about these people.

Of course, it's not a "done deal" that any of these will be the running mate, and it could be someone entirely different. I also like Sen. John Thune, Governor Palin, J.C. Watts, Michael Steele and a few others.

meandog, I’m afraid your mistaken on this issue.

The Invasion by Mexico picked up significantly AFTER THE 1986 AMNESTY BILL SIGNED BY REAGAN!! The effects of NAFTA (signed in 1994) took years to come about. While Clinton can certaily be blamed for NAFTA which he pushed for, it was Gingrinch and convincing enough conservatives to go along with that boondogle that pushed it thru. As soon as Bush came into office in 2001, he began talking about Amnesty. Remember how he was pushing it right before 9/11? Sorry, but the numbers indicate that the Invasion increased exponentially from 2004 to present. There were approximately 10 million illegals in the U.S. in 2001. Now there are 40 million-plus. Go figure. Bush is the culprit, not Clinton! Blame Clinton for selling our missile technology to Red China and other things, but NOT the Invasion. Give the b*****d credit where credit’s due. For the Invasion, blame Reagan for signing the Simpson-Mazolli Bill and Bush and his cozy relationship with Mexico.

I do not care who posts here or what party they are with.

Or even what they believe for that matter.

Me, I’m a conservative first.

And it is my experience that independents have socialist leanings, but if they do and post here their ideas will be defeated in debate.

I don’t care who posts here, either. You had said “our party”, I believe, which is why I responded as an Indy con.

I disagree that “Independents have Socialist leanings”. Ross Perot (who I loathed) was no Socialist, nor is Rev. Chuck Baldwin. I’m sure there ARE Indy Socialists, but I don’t know any. I agree that they’d show their hand in a debate...

The best one is a tie between Romney and Jindal; the former is Romney and the latter is far too inexperienced at present. I don't know about Watts.

Crist? Brownback? Who's selecting these potential VPs? With a list that long, I'd expect to find at least one qualified conservative.

Sure, if Governor Palin were Michael Palin, I might consider him. ;)

I’m not sure who’s the best, but Crist is certainly the worst. Or maybe Lieberman. Lieberman is good on the war, but dreadful on just about everything else.

“I only know who I don’t like and you know who I mean. Who’s globe trotting while Florida’s in an economic downturn and hurricane season starts on June 1? He’s never been a governor. He used Fla as a stepping stone. STUPID GOP AND DEMS WHO VOTED FOR HIM. If Mccain picks Gov. Suntan, we’ll have socialism and marxism (as in marx brothers but without the laughs).”

And you should know, since you’re from Florida.

Thanks for the ping...the only thing I know right now is no Gov. Charlie Crist. He may have helped with the nom but he is poison for the election.

Somebody in my family told me they thought Huckabee was there, too.

I’ll try to find a story about it.

Mitt is the branch of the global viewing Republican/socialist wannabe party that will sell us out (and our unborn) to the Chinese to make themselves look good to the liberal voting masses and make a buck or a billion or two in the process. No thanks. That carnival needs to stop with the Clintons.

*It’s no secret. Mitt Romney*

to add to this, both McCain and Mitt own homes in San Diego
McCain has two condos along the ocean on Coronado
and Mitt just bought a home here in San Diego on the ocean front in La Jolla.

One of Mitt’s sons and family have been living in San Diego for the past some years.

One of McCain’s son’s, a Marine is based in San Diego

Because I am not a RINO, McCain Cool-Aid drinking socialist I should not be on FR? Why on earth are you here when you do not support conservative values? Some how not bending over for McCain the shill of the left I should stop posting? You in fact demostrate the very heart of his Stalinist roots. If I don’t agree with you or him I need to shut up or go away. McCain will do far more damage in the WH then Obama, who we cana least fight against. Sorry to hear that at some point you lost your will to fight the socialiats.

Your bizarre, convoluted logic astounds and is almost a mirror image reflection of a lot of the feeling sentiment in the 1933 election in Germany between Kurt von Schleicher, (a moderate and a much decorated World War I hero who wanted to desperately unite a diverse ethnic nation on the verge of revolution) and a very charismatic yet maniacal criminal and murdering lunatic who would bring it later to ruin and heap world anathema and a lot of death for its people. Schleicher, at one moment in time, was capable of winning but he also was "the RINO (a social democrat) of his era" and there were many Germans of his party who did not vote or actually voted for his opponent, believing that his opponent was doomed to failure and would open the door for better candidates at a future time.
It doesn't take too much knowledge of history to realize what happened.
Of course, you have every right to feel the way you do and to vote your conscience...but there is also a hard and vast caveat you should also consider: Be careful of what you wish for, because you might just get it!

Well, I don’t heap all of the blame on Clinton. True, he had help from “Read My Lips” Bush. But, even though he inked the first so-called “amnesty” act for illegals, there is no way I’m ever gonna blame Reagan. If you trace the illegal migration to America, it really began as far back as JFK. Eisenhower put a stop to much of the influx with his “Operation Wetback” but the tide slowly turned after his presidency. Nixon ignored much of the problem (I know this because I visited Ciudad Victoria back when I was in college after serving in the military and personally witnessed throngs of Mexicans being recruited in Brownsville to work as crop pickers when I passed through there. The tide of illegals really became high during the Carter administration as old Jimmy was too busy trying to deal with his failures. So, when Reagan came to power, there was quite a mess and he, to his credit, attempted to solve it by giving amnesty to a cheap, willing, and in demand labor force while at the same time establishing laws to prevent a repeat. “Read My Lips” Bush, the “New World Order” president could care less about enforcing those laws and neither could Miss Lewinski’s boyfriend. Accordingly IMO, “Mission Accomplished” Bush then inherited the kind of mess facing Reagan.

Except for judges I actually concur with most of your post. But I’d still GLADLY vote for McCain before Obama. We will screw America when letting Obama into office.
